Doctors

Christopher J. Huser, MD

Christopher J. Huser, MD, specializes in regenerative therapies and  interventional pain management at Metro Denver Pain Management. He serves his patients throughout Greenwood Village, Parker, Thornton, and the surrounding Colorado area by helping them actively manage acute or chronic pain.

Dr. Huser earned his medical degree from the Indiana University School of Medicine. While there, he was recognized for clinically outstanding work in internal medicine, anesthesiology, critical care, surgery, and pediatrics. After graduation, he continued onto Northwestern University, where he completed both his anesthesiology training and pain fellowship.

Since moving to Colorado, Dr. Huser has continued to use interventional, multidisciplinary, and medical treatments for acute and chronic pain. He has extensive training in pain diagnosis and believes patients should have the tools to actively manage their pain. Those tools include — but are not limited to — medication, physical therapy, multidisciplinary management, regenerative therapies and injections.

Dr. Huser is a member of the Greater Colorado Anesthesia group, the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the American Medical Association, the Colorado Medical Society, the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Management, the American Society of Interventional Pain Physicians, and more.

D. Jonathan Bernardini, MD

Dr. D. Jonathan Bernardini is known as one of the top pain management and regenerative medicine specialists in Greenwood Village, Parker, and Thornton, Colorado.

Dr. Bernardini earned his medical degree at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and went on to complete an internship in general surgery at the University of California Davis Medical Center in central California. He served as an active-duty flight surgeon for five years at bases in Korea and Italy before completing an anesthesiology residency at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Harvard Medical School, both in Massachusetts.

With his specialized pain medicine training from Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, one of the most esteemed pain management programs in the United States, Dr. Bernardini offers a range of interventional and non-interventional methods to treat many painful conditions, from headaches and neck and back pain to cancer pain and more. He specializes in helping people with vertebral compression fractures and neuropathic pain conditions by using treatments like medications, injections, and physical therapy.

As one of the few pain specialists with a triple-board certification in interventional pain management by the American Board of Interventional Pain Physicians, and anesthesiology and pain medicine by the American Board of Anesthesiology, Dr. Bernardini works hard to understand the cause of the pain first so he can recommend the best solution possible. He strives to start with conservative treatments first such as regenerative therapies to help improve quality of life and avoid potentially risky surgeries.

When not presenting scientific papers at national meetings or caring for patients, Dr. Bernardini spends quality time with his wife and two children in their Denver-area home.

Giancarlo Checa, MD

When patients want an innovative pain management specialist who will put them first, they turn to Giancarlo Checa, MD, at Metro Denver Pain Management. He has years of experience leveraging proven pain management and regenerative medicine techniques for individuals throughout Thornton, Parker, Greenwood Village, and neighboring Colorado cities.

Dr. Checa got his medical start right here in Colorado. He earned his medical degree from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he received honors in anesthesia and urology research. He then stayed in the area to complete his surgical internship at Saint Joseph Hospital in Denver.

He then completed his anesthesia residency at Yale-New Haven Hospital, where he received the Anesthesia Resident Teaching Award, before continuing on to San Francisco to complete his pain management fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco.

Since his return to Colorado, Dr. Checa has gained a reputation in the medical community as both an innovator and a dedicated caregiver to his patients. His goal is always to blend his extensive, fellowship-level pain management training with a warm, holistic approach so that patients get effective treatment that gets them back to an active lifestyle.

Dr. Checa prioritizes non-narcotics-based treatments along with regenerative therapies  to find solutions that best suit their wants and needs.

Dr. Checa is a member of the Greater Colorado Anesthesia group, American Society of Anesthesia, International Spine Intervention Society, and sits on the board of the Colorado Pain Society. When he’s not serving patients, you can find him hiking, skiing, or scuba diving.
